This month, our focus is Asset #3*: Other Adult Relationships
Youth receives support from 3 or more non-parent adults.
Category: External Asset
Subcategory and Icon: Support and red heart
Nationally, 43% of youth report having this asset.
5 Ways to Build Other Adult Relationships
- Get together with another family to play a board game or softball. Your kids can get to know other parents and you can get to know other children.
- Participate in community groups that encourage intergenerational interaction like Girl Scouts, sports teams, or a church play.
- Share a skill with youth from your neighborhood. Teach them how to bake, plant flowers, or change a car tire. Find other parents who are willing to share their skills with your child.
- Get to know your child’s teacher. Teachers spend a significant amount of time with children and can be great allies for parents!
- Encourage your child to express appreciation to meaningful adults in his life. Help him bake a cake, make thank-you cards, or draw a picture.
